Every year, more thank one million Americans have heart attacks. A heart attack is the damage done to a heart by the build up of plaque in the arteries. When the build up occurs, it creates too thin of a passage for the blood to reach the heart, your heart is starved for oxygen and this causes a heart attack. Some attacks are fatal, some pose serious damage to a persons health and others are just enough of a risk to give a person enormous reason to change their lifestyle.
Poor lifestyle choices are a huge reason for heart attacks. Food, alcohol, smoking and drug use are among some of the major causes of heart disease. Exercise, healthy eating, low stress environments, not using drugs or tobacco products can help your chances of avoiding a heart attack. There are other factors such as cholesterol, family history or environmental obstacles that can be large factors. It is easier said than done for some. A lifetime of bad eating can be a hard habit to break. It is important to control cholesterol and avoid saturated fats all together. It is wise to exercise 3 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes a session and avoid chemicals like smoking and drug use. Heart attacks can occur no matter how healthy your lifestyle, but the more you work to avoid them, the better you will be for it.
